Headed by our Engagement Officer Amy Mitchell, we will be offering an evolving programme of events and resources to expand and enhance your experience and appreciation of theatre in all its forms.
Live and online, these will be tailored to individual projects and productions, but also deal with wider aspects of theatre, for instance, analysing texts, creating character, producing theatre, writing scripts, performing Shakespeare and so on. We can also provide one on one acting coaching, audition technique and dramaturgy, should you be working on a new script. All will be aimed at schools, colleges and universities but also individuals and the wider public.
Our workshops and Q&As can be bespoke – i.e. you can tell us what you would like us to cover – or we can provide a whole array of workshops and Q&As of our own. These will be led by Amy, our AD, Jake Murray or one of our many actors.
Shakespeare For All is Elysium Theatre Company’s outreach initiative for schools, colleges, universities and communities across the North. Led by our experienced team of theatre practitioners, we deliver engaging, accessible workshops tailored to your needs. Whether you are discovering Shakespeare for the first time, preparing for GCSE or A Level exams, or developing performance skills, our sessions explore language, context, stagecraft and interpretation in a practical and inspiring way.
Workshops can be one off sessions, half or full day bookings, extended programmes or online masterclasses. From text specific revision support to interactive talks and performance coaching, we believe Shakespeare truly is for everyone.
The Shakespeare Podcasts and Digital Series bring together in depth conversations and performance pieces exploring Shakespeare’s work, history and legacy. Featuring leading actors, directors and scholars, the series includes eleven exclusive interviews covering performance, stagecraft, language, historical context and the craft of directing Shakespeare.
Alongside the podcast interviews, audiences can explore The Othello Interviews, filmed with the director and principal cast at the Assembly Rooms Theatre in Durham, and The Macbeth Files, a filmed series of key scenes from the tragedy performed by professional actors. Together, these resources offer unique insight into Shakespeare in performance and practice.
Reiver – Voices From The Borders is a project celebrating the history and storytelling traditions of the North East. Writers from Northumberland and County Durham were invited to submit original audioplays set in the era of the Border Reivers, with six powerful dramas selected for production across 2024 to 2026.
Directed by Jake Murray the series brings to life stories of loyalty, conflict, witchcraft and survival. Alongside the audioplays, a companion podcast series explores the history of the Reivers and the craft of writing for the era, featuring historians, writers and storytellers.
Reiver – Voices From The Borders was a large scale community engagement project delivered across County Durham and Northumberland. Inspired by Elysium Theatre Company’s stage production Reiver – Tales From The Borders, the initiative worked directly with theatres, schools, youth theatres and universities to explore the history of the Border Reivers through creative workshops and collaborative response pieces.
Participants developed new work reflecting the region’s heritage, supported by professional artists and historians. The project concluded with a series of recorded creative responses and four companion podcasts exploring Reiver history and approaches to new writing. Supported by Durham University, the National Heritage Lottery Fund and Northumberland County Council, the initiative placed local voices and communities at the heart of the storytelling.
