This year Elysium Theatre Company launches a new initiative across the North
SHAKESPEARE FOR ALL
Our crack team of workshop leaders will be coming out to schools, communities, colleges and universities to present an array of workshops covering all aspects of Shakespeare. If you’re first discovering Shakespeare, studying him for exams or what to get to grips with him as a performer, #ShakespeareForAll is for you.
We will offer wide range of workshops tailored to your needs, from one on one tutorials and coaching to large scale Q&As, talks and interactive events. We can focus on specific texts, help you understand the language, explore Shakespeare’s stage craft or any other aspect of his work. We can help you get to grips with performing Shakespeare, gain an in depth understanding of his writing and the world it was part of, and engage creatively with his plays
Workshops can be anything from single sessions to one offs, half or full days or extended programmes. We will also offer online resources, webinars and other events.
To find out more, including fees, terms and conditions or to book a workshop, coaching session or tutorial, contact

SHAKESPEARE, HENRIK IBSEN, ARTHUR MILLER & J B PRIESTLY COVERED
Shakespeare can be difficult to understand. The language can be puzzling and the themes complex.
Elysium will be offering live, interactive workshops, Q&As and talks on all the key set texts by Shakespeare, including ‘Macbeth’, ‘Romeo And Juliet’. ‘Othello’, ‘The Tempest’, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and many more.
We can help you with the language with a simple technique that will help you unlock the words, speak the verse flowingly and understand it easily.
We can explore the plays through theme, character, stage craft, focus on individual scenes or look at the whole world of the play.
Themes might include love, magic, race, politics, gender, leadership and others.
A typical workshop will begin with a talk, move into a practical, interactive approach to the text and end with a Q&A.
Want to get to grips with playing Shakespeare and understanding the stage craft and world of his plays? Want to know how Shakespeare works on the stage rather than on the page?
Elysium will be offering live, interactive workshops, Q&As and talks on all aspects of Shakespeare’s stagecraft, including understanding the language, creating his characters, breaking down scenes, building the relationships between characters, looking at how stories unfold and the historical background that inform his plays.
These will be much more in depth workshops which will get students and participants on their feet, giving them a practical understanding of how to approach Shakespeare’s plays.
Not able to participate in a live workshop?
Elysium will be offering a programme of online events and resources covering all the aspects of Shakespeare’s work offered on this page.
These will include masterclasses, Q&As and practical explorations of how to understand and perform Shakespeare.
We will provide resources for revision and further understanding, such as our ‘Shakespeare Podcasts’ which you can find on our YouTube Channel Elysium TC.
These online events will include a dedicated series of workshops and Q&As in the run up to exam season at GCSEs and A level.
We will also offer one on one Shakespeare coaching and tutorials via the internet.
Ever wanted to know more about Shakespeare used music, design, movement and combat to bring his plays to life?
Elysium will be offering live workshops and courses to help you respond to and be creative with Shakespeare through artwork, music, writing or performance.
We can help you explore Shakespeare through fine art, as well as the songs and music in his plays. We can show you how movement, dance and stage combat reveal character. Find out how Tybalt and Mercutio fought each other, how to move like a Witch or a Fairy.
Art, music and movement are all wonderful ways for primary school children to discover Shakespeare. Looking at costume of the time or how to evoke the world of ‘Macbeth’ or ‘The Tempest’ through illustration and painting are all things we can offer.
If you are a teacher, actor or director who wants to improve their skills and understanding of Shakespeare we can help you develop both in a fun, relaxed but professional atmosphere.
We can help you explore all the themes and approaches to Shakespeare we offer in our workshops.
As a theatre company we can also offer a unique practical awareness of Shakespeare’s work. We can help you access them as dramas in performance, not just texts.
Elysium is a theatre company and our business is creating stage productions. In 2023 we launched the first Durham Shakespeare Festival and intend to carry this into the future.
If you want to see Shakespeare in performance or want to bring a class or cohort, we will provide you with a unique opportunity each year. Watch our for news of forthcoming productions.
We will also be offering work experience and other placements in our productions. If you are looking to have a taste of professional theatre or want to learn from professionals, contact us about opportunities as we go forward.
